NOVALINK 433MHz mLRS Radio System Hits 138.7km Range!

NOVALINK 433MHz mLRS Radio System Hits 138.7km Range!

The NOVALINK 433MHz mLRS radio system passed the 100km mark with flying colors at 138.7km range.

This test was performed by a direct line of sight RF path in a large city with RF noise.

Receiver setup was placed on top of a 16-meter building and transmitter was handheld at the top of a mountain. There were trees at the top which partially blocked the direct line of sight path.

Receiver setup with Ardupilot flight controller

There were a number of non-idealities in this test:

  • Antenna orientation not optimal
  • Antenna SWR could be better
  • IPEX connector + SMA adapter
  • Yagi antenna had 15ft cable
  • Tx module powered from 5V USB (slightly lower power than external power)
  • PCB design not fully optimized for RF path
  • Electrical noise from radio (TX16S)

Expect the performance to be better with a more ideal setup.

This is just the beginning. More range tests will be performed to push the limits of NOVALINK.
